Support through Awareness

Mission Statement

Home

Breastfeeding Community provides support through awareness. We will publish a magazine, titled ‘Mum & Me’, to be issued free of charge to nearly 120,000 mums attending ante natal clinics in the UK every two months. The glossy, full colour magazine will look and feel like a standard high street magazine.

The magazine promotes breastfeeding and gentle parenting by introducing positive role models and images. The magazine has been designed to have particular appeal to younger mums from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

This website also has a comprehensive list of peer support groups, throughout the UK. Maintaining this list is akin to painting the Forth Bridge, it will never be finished, but we will have fun working to keep it as up to date as possible.

Mothers’ peer support groups can raise funds for themselves by selling copies of the magazine. Assisting peer support groups to be partially (or fully) self-sustaining is a major part of this project.

Once established, the magazine will become self-sustaining with ethical advertising that must also comply with the WHO Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes. Mum & Me magazine will ensure that more mums will have relevant information given to them in a non-intrusive, non-judgemental way.

The Department of Health, many health professionals as well as peer supporters, have expressed their approval, support and enthusiasm for this project.

We strive to comply with the WHO Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. The ethos of the organisation extends further than just supporting breastfeeding. We aim to conduct the business as ethically as possible, with special consideration to the environment and inclusive employment.
